The Gornergrat is a true natural paradise. Once up at the elevation of 3,089 metres you will be only minutes away on foot from this natural landscape. The starts and finishes for various routes are between the Gornergrat and the Riffelberg.
You have several hiking trail choices on the Gornergrat. Discover the snow covered world at 3000 metres. Or you could enjoy a winter‘s day on a sunny terrace and then walk down through the Swiss pine forest (Arvenwald) to Zermatt from the Riffelalp.
The best ticket for your winter hikes
As a winter hiker you can choose between various ticket offers. You can buy the parts of the route that you want to do by train individually. With a half-price or general season ticket you get a 50% discount on the ticket price. Depending on the route, a ticket from Zermatt-Gornergrat and back could be cheaper than the separate parts of the route. It pays to compare!
Guided winter walks with fondue fun
The Zermatters’ mountain guides accompany guests on a winter walking tour including a fondue. The walk is from Rotenboden station to the Igloo Village. After being shown around the igloos a cheese fondue will be served on the terrace. The walk will then continue to the Riffelberg. The tour can also be booked as a snowshoe tour. You can easily rent snowshoes in the sports shops in the village and at Rotenboden station.
