Riffelsee – The Mirror of the Matterhorn

A magical place at 2,757 m – where nature, light and mountains meet in the water.

The Riffelsee is one of the most breathtaking photo spots in the Alps – world-famous for its perfect reflection of the Matterhorn on calm, windless days.

Nestled in the high-alpine landscape of the Gornergrat, it’s just a short walk from Rotenboden station and easily reached by the Gornergrat Railway.

The Riffelsee captivates at any time of day with its serene beauty and impressive setting – but it is especially magical in the early morning or late afternoon, when soft light bathes the mountains in colour and absolute stillness reveals the Matterhorn mirrored in crystal-clear water.
