After an enjoyable day on the Gornergrat perhaps you feel the need to stretch your legs in the afternoon. On the journey down leave the train at the Riffelalp station and make your way to Findelbach or Zermatt on foot.
The path takes you through a wonderful snowed-in pine forest – the Arvenwald. First you pass the luxury Riffelalp Resort Hotel with its charmingly rustic Alphitta restaurant. Should you feel like a slice of homemade cake then you should definitely take a break here. On the lower Riffelalp you go past the Chämi-Hitte restaurant, right next to the ski slopes. Just before Furi the path takes a turn to the right and brings you down through the forest to Findelbach or even further to Zermatt.
