Construction work on the Gornergrat Bahn
Track construction work on the Riffelboden-Riffelberg section (Riffelbordgalerie)
Extensive track construction work is required on the GGB line between Riffelboden and Riffelberg this summer. The implementation of the 1st construction stage has already started in June with the construction site installation. Since 5 July 2021, the preliminary work (lowering of the embankment and pipe system and replacement of the stream culvert) has begun. The work is carried out in night shifts from Monday to Friday (approx. 20.00 to 06.00 hours). During the preparatory work, construction trains will only be used in isolated night shifts; the necessary construction machinery will mainly be used on the adjacent road.
Track reconstruction August - October Track reconstruction will begin on 9 August 2021. The work will also be carried out in night shifts from Monday to Friday (approx. 20.00 to 06.00). Among other things, a construction train will be used for the track construction work. During the night shifts, this train will mainly run between Riffelboden/Riffelbordgalerie and Riffelalp. In addition, the necessary construction materials will be brought in and out by road between Riffelboden and Riffelbordgalerie. The construction trains between Zermatt-Riffelboden / Riffelboden-Zermatt will run at the beginning and end of each shift.
The Gornergrat Bahn apologizes to the affected residents for the inconvenience and asks for their understanding. The GGB and the construction companies are making every effort to minimize the disruption and impact of the construction work.
