Frequently asked questions
Can I buy several smartphone tickets in one order?
Yes. The only important thing is that each QR code must be scanned with a different smartphone. Only one ticket can be activated per smartphone.
Please note that each code can only be scanned once! If the ticket is deleted, the same code cannot be scanned again. In case of problems, please bring the purchase receipt with the QR code or booking confirmation to one of our sales points.
Is my smartphone compatible for smartphone tickets?
Smartphone tickets are available for devices running iOS 13 or higher, as well as Android 8 or higher. They are not compatible with Samsung S8 and S9 devices, or with any Oppo, OnePlus, Huawei, Honor, Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco devices.
Do I need internet on the mountain?
No. Once activated, the ticket also works offline – even in flight mode.
What if my battery is empty?
To ensure smooth access, please make sure your device is adequately charged.
Why does the smartphone ticket require Bluetooth and GPS? Am I being tracked?
Bluetooth is used to connect with the gates. Instead of showing a physical ticket, your smartphone “communicates” directly with the terminal. Without Bluetooth, the system cannot detect your device.
Permission to access location is required by Apple and Google whenever an app uses Bluetooth. However, the Matterhorn app does not use GPS, and no location data is tracked.
Gate entries are recorded – just like with any other ticket.
Why are Bluetooth and GPS necessary?
Bluetooth (Low Energy) enables the ticket gate to detect your smartphone contactlessly as you approach. This replaces manual ticket checks and speeds up access.
Apple and Google require apps that use Bluetooth to request location access permission. However, the Matterhorn app does not use GPS and does not track any data. Entry at the gate is recorded, just like with any other ticket.
How does this affect battery usage?
Modern devices consume up to 10% more battery per day with Bluetooth and GPS enabled.
In practice, the impact is usually lower, as both technologies are energy-efficient and optimized by your operating system.
No, the Smartphone-Ticket is personalized and linked to your device.
What do I do if I lose my smartphone or the battery runs out?
If you do not have your smartphone with you or cannot use it, please bring the purchase receipt with the QR code to one of our sales points. For a handling fee of CHF 10.00, the ticket will be reissued on a KeyCard.
